Who & What is Cotton Wolf?
The Cotton Wolf name does require a little explanation. We are named in memory of an Iditarod running, snow loving, adventuresome canid pal who possessed profound listening skills. Commonly known as an Alaskan husky, her coat was the color and texture of cotton.
Cotton Wolf had a matching disposition—warm, soft, and astonishingly strong. Running on a new plane of existence now, her inspiration still echoes here, in the programming, and in our acoustic curriculum.
Think of the COMPANY part of our name in "wolf pack" terms. In one another's company we nurture connections and care for community.
Cotton Wolf's Human Helpers
Andrea Lynn, MFA, M.Sc., Ph.D. (she/her/hers), is Cotton Wolf's founder ... alongside Cotton Wolf. An ecoacoustician, educator, and adventurer, Andrea is captivated by sound.
Her primary research is situated in the Arctic where she investigates the impacts of anthropogenic noise on the acoustic habitats of Arctic marine mammals.
Andrea believes that science shifts policy, after stories stir human hearts. She evolved Cotton Wolf from its roots in the art of storytelling to an experiential acoustics micro social enterprise that tends to disconnection and dissonance by emphasizing nature’s soundscapes, seeking to rebuild a spirit of oneness with our Earth home.
Dirk (he/him/his) is Cotton Wolf's lead guide. Possessing a knack for extreme preparedness, Dirk rarely meets a challenge he's not up for taking on. His experience as a professional athlete (and certified personal trainer) keeps Dirk focused on fitness, well-being, and outdoor adventuring.
An excellent navigator (no getting lost in the woods when he's around), Dirk has stories from around the world to share, and, he's a magnificent storyteller.
His sense of humor is uplifting when the trail gets tough, and his agility and strength help ensure a safe journey.
